Indonesian box office movie through the years, grab more audience to watch twice, three times, four times, even eight times. Besides, they love the actor or the filmmaker, they love the story and feel relate to it. Characters, stories, and issues must be relevant nowadays. Even if it was the past, it should be modified.




The first box office movie in 2019 directed by Yandy Laurent, Keluarga Cemara which based on 90's Indonesian TV Drama written by Arswendo Atmowiloto. It came up with campaign #KembaliKeKeluarga (back to the family) to express that the most important thing in human life is family. The story is about a rich family who bankrupts and lost their property. They have to move to a village to survive. At this moment, they realized that the family is the best support system in our life. Misery is nothing as long as we have a family. This movie touched the spectator's heart, called their memory with parents and family. They watch more than once, even invite their family to watch together in the theater.

The highest number of Indonesia's Movie spectators is drama. Dua Garis Biru, the most phenomenon movie in 2019. The film which directed and written by Gina S. Nore got more than 2 million spectators. Some of them watch it more than once. It tells about a teen couple who had free-sex and got pregnant then has to face marriage under-age and survive among their family concern and their feelings.

This movie met A-B-C SES audiences in Indonesia. The feeling of a rich parent who has a smart child and expects that she will be a successful person in the future. And a humble parent who has an ordinary child and expects that he will be a good man. It is a view of usual families in Indonesia. Their children are not naughty nor undisciplined, they just don't get enough sex education. This movie visualized what every parent frightened about their kids.


Dilan 1991, directed by Fajar Bustomi and Pidi Baiq (released in February 2019). The highest number of spectators in 2019. They win their fan's hearts since the Dilan 1990. Teenagers feel that Dilan and Milea are us. They have a teenager's relationship full of sweet talk, letter, poetry, and innocent. If you're upper 25 years-old, you can remember the moment of your senior high school, the first and the puppy love. How the problem of life is only about love.

Imperfect, directed by Ernest Prakasa (released in December 2019). The filmmaker bring up the matters of "insecurity because of appearance". It criticized the definition of beauty in our social perspective. Through this movie, they campaigned that beauty isn't about body size nor colors. Beauty is dependent on our minds and heart.  "Ubah insecure jadi bersyukur": Change insecure to be grateful. It calls netizens who have experiences in facing body shaming and unconfident about their body. Many of them feel related to the characters. They unite to support each other.

Those movies are related to their spectators and fans. Their testimonial and review look honest then influence more people to watch. By the time, word of mouth is the key to a successful movie. How far it spread work on the number of people who impress, engage, and go to the theater.
